Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how LLH Speak ("we", "us", "our"), a product of Language Learners Hub, collects and uses your information across speak.languagelearnershub.com, both if you're subscribed to our newsletter and once you have an account.

If you're subscribed to our newsletter

When you subscribe, we collect your name, email address, and the language you're learning, so we can send you product updates and news. We use beehiiv to manage this list. Your details are stored on beehiiv's servers, and their privacy policy applies to their handling of your data.

Once you have an account

To run the app we collect: your email address and password (stored as a secure hash, never in plain text), the profile information you choose to add (display name, bio, languages, correction style preferences, up to two photos), the messages and voice notes you send to conversation partners, and technical information such as your IP address, which we use for account security, spam prevention, and enforcing our Terms of Service.

Photos and face detection

When you upload a profile photo, your browser checks it for a detectable face before the upload happens. This check runs on your own device. A photo that fails the check is never sent to our servers. Photos that pass are resized and stored on our server to display on your profile.

Why we collect it

We use your information to operate the service (matching you with language partners, running conversations), to keep the community safe (reviewing reports, enforcing bans), and to secure accounts (rate-limiting login attempts, detecting abuse).

Safety and moderation

Other users can report or block you, and you can report or block them. Reports are reviewed by our moderators. Accounts that violate our Terms of Service may be suspended temporarily or permanently. When we ban an account, we may also record the associated email address and IP address to prevent that person from creating a new account to evade the ban.

Payments and subscriptions

If you subscribe to a paid plan, we collect billing information (name, email, card details) to process payments via Stripe. We also track your subscription status and which premium features you have access to. Card information is never stored on our servers -Stripe handles all payment processing securely. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your profile settings, and you will not be charged again.

Participation tracking and rewards

We track your participation in conversations (number of exchanges, dates of activity) to determine eligibility for rewards and premium features. This data helps us identify reliable community members and offer founding member pricing to early participants.

Push notifications

If you enable push notifications in your browser or device, we use this to notify you about new messages and other activity. You can disable push notifications at any time in your settings, and we will not send any further notifications.

Sharing your data

We do not sell your data. Your account is shared with the LLH Tutor platform, operated by the same organisation, so you can use one login across both. We use third-party services only where necessary to run the service: beehiiv for our newsletter, Google Analytics for anonymised usage data, Stripe for payment processing, and a transactional email provider for account emails such as password resets.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this site, Google Search Console to monitor our presence in Google Search results, and a single session cookie required to keep you logged in once you have an account. We do not use advertising cookies.

Your rights

You can access, correct, or request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us. If you're subscribed to our newsletter, you can unsubscribe using the link in any email we send. Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you and to request its deletion, subject to any records we're required to keep for safety or legal reasons.

Data retention

Messages: Your messages are automatically deleted after 30 days for privacy protection. You can manually delete messages at any time. Deleted messages are not recoverable. If you delete your account, all your messages are permanently deleted after 90 days.

Activity logs: Our server logs (IP addresses, request times, API usage) are retained for 90 days for security and troubleshooting purposes, then deleted.

Safety reports: When you report a user, we keep records of that report for 12 months to identify patterns and help moderate the community. These records are confidential.

Payment information: Stripe handles all payment card data and we do not store card details. We retain records of transactions for 6 years as required by UK tax law.

Account data: If you delete your account, your profile and associated data are permanently deleted. Some data may be retained where required by law (safety investigations, fraud prevention, or legal holds).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
